An eligible sponsor can sponsor h/her spouse, conjugal or common-law partner, and or accompanying dependent children who live with h/her in Canada, even if they do not have legal status in Canada. A sponsor can also sponsor anyone in the mentioned group if they live outside Canada. The other process is for sponsoring other eligible relatives. The other eligible relatives are the sponsor’s parent(s), grandparent(s), as well as h/her brother(s) or sister(s), or nephew(s), niece(s), granddaughter(s) or grandson(s) who are orphaned, under the age of 18 years, and who are not married or in common law relationship. In the event that none of the above-mentioned relatives could be sponsored and the sponsor has no other relative(s) who is Canadian citizen(s), person(s) registered as Indian under the Indian Act or a permanent resident(s) of Canada, the sponsor can sponsor another relative(s) of any age or relationship and the relative’s spouse, partner and or dependent children.

Tax Law

Every year, millions of Canadians and Canadian businesses are required by law to file income tax returns, GST and other source deductions. Most taxpayers file and do so correctly, it is also true that not every taxpayer is in compliance with these requirements. Some taxpayers make innocent mistakes in their returns and end up having to deal with Revenue Canada. Some taxpayers do not file at all either because of delinquencies from previous years or for so many other reasons.

Revenue Canada takes a special interest in the situations above. The agency is mandated to ensure compliance with the country's tax laws. Although it may take time for it to catch defaulting taxpayers, but it often does eventually.

Not with standing the above, Revenue Canada encourages taxpayers to voluntarily comply with tax laws before they are caught. Because once caught, many of the relieving provisions of the Income Tax Act like the Voluntary Disclosure Program (Tax Amnesty), Amended Returns, and Fairness Provisions may no longer apply.

Whether your tax problems with Revenue Canada are the result of filing misleading or incomplete returns or for not filing at all, it is always better to resolve the problems before the Agency catches up with you. If the agency has caught with you, it is better to try to resolve the matter as early as possible and ADEGA LAW OFFICE will work very hard to bring a relieving touch to your situation.
It is often difficult to avoid Revenue Canada for a long time. The Agency has located and prosecuted many tax evaders through the auditing of companies that the taxpayers may have worked for, family members, children and more. Once discovered, Revenue Canada goes very far in ensure that the delinquent taxpayer meets the relevant tax obligation. Criminal prosecution and fines of up to 200% of the amount of tax owed are some of the other options open to Revenue Canada.

As a Taxpayers you do not have to wait to be caught before taking the necessary steps to address your tax problems. An understanding of Canada's tax laws, proper tax planning techniques and tax advice are the building blocks to avoiding tax problems and resolving existing ones. Our goal is to resolve tax problems without having to resort to litigation. However, we will not hesitate to litigate in cases where our client's are left with no other option.

Whether you are dealing with routine tax matters or contemplating advanced tax law and tax planning issues, we are able to guide you through the often-complicated world of Taxation. When it comes to tax issues, especially as it concerns the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency, it is never too early to retain a tax lawyer. One of the several benefits of retaining a tax lawyer is that, unlike your accountant or tax planner/practitioner, your dealings and interactions with the tax law lawyer are protected under the solicitor/client privilege rule, and cannot be compelled by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency to testify against you in court, a privilege that allows you to comfortably provide us with the information needed to provide you with the best professional advice.
